If you're curious about how these fused glass bowls and platters are made, I cut the different colors of glass as though I were making a stained glass window, but instead of soldering, I fuse the pieces together in an electric kiln. The glass is heated at a specific rate to 1450 degrees F. and cooled down (annealed) at an exact rate, and a flat piece of glass is the result. The next step involves a bowl or platter shaped mold, of clay or stainless steel, painted with kiln wash to keep the glass from sticking to it. The flat glass is set on top of the mold, put back into the kiln and heated again to about 1300 degrees F until it slumps down into the mold and takes its shape.
